Dreamsworks Animation

Pixar has been world renown for releasing the world's first fully computer animated feature length film on November 19, 1995. However Dreamworks Animation was founded a year before Disney's movie release on October 12, 1994.

Dreamworks was the idea of three key people: Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, of which was to create a new Hollywood Studio based solely on live-action and animation and at the time (1994) no noticable stuido had been erected in many years. They received a total of $533 million in financial backing. It took a total of 2.5 years until the first film was released called The Peacemaker followed closely by Amistad and MouseHunt. However it wasn't until a whole year later for Dreamworks to produce Antz their first animated film and it was feature length to.

Dreamworks is a major competitor because both companies are now almost entirely animation based and 3D at of which there isn't a wide variety of differing animation studios producing the level of quality, the length of animation and the release pace of films as other companies. The two companies today have a similar amount of Average Gross Per Film, Pixar at: $557.3 million and Dreamworks at: $460.8 million which means that the two companies are very close together in an otherwise sparse market.

The two latest animated films released by Dreamswork and Pixar are: Home and Inside Out. Home's full budget was $135 million and the Box Office for the film was $387.7 million compared to the budget of Inside Out which was $175million with a Box Office of $792.2 million. This shows that both companies are big names that they can spend such vast amounts of money on film production and still make a vast sum of profit back.

The two products are very similar because each are completely 3D animated which means that the entire film is made from Computer Generated Imagery. The films have a very similar art style, they have friendly bright colours with a fictional take on life with characters being all types of colours like blue, this is achieved because both films targets is children. If you look at the two pictures to the right the eyes are very wide and the facial expressions are very apparent because of their over exuberance to make each film more easily viewable for Children and to entertain other target audience for instance Teenagers and adults.

The Market position of Pixar who is owned by Disney is currently at 105.37 points in their market position compared to Dreamworks at 20.58 points as of 20:04, 9th October 2015. This shows that the market position of Disney and Pixar is leaps ahead of Dreamworks Animation showing how much value Pixar has against Dreamworks.

Blue Sky Studios

Blue Sky Studios has produced some of the most known and popular feature length films from 2002 onwards, however, the studio actually was founded in 1987 by: Chris Wedge, Carl Ludwig, Dr. Eugene Troubetzkoy, Alison Brown, David Brown and Michael Ferraroall of which worked on the Disney movie Tron. From 1987 to 1999 the Blue Sky Studios focues on TV commercials and special effects and from 1997 to then turned its attention to animation. Then in 1999 the company changed tactics and then focused on feature length animated films and had a smash hit called: Ice Age having a Box Office of $383.3 million

Blue Sky Studios is not as big of competition as Dreamworks this is because of the amount of feature length animated films Blue Sky Studios release compared to Pixar, however, the Studio still has a very large part of the animation business with movies making $890 million in gross. Either way the company is my alike to Pixar as their almost entirely animation based and 3D animated at of which there isn't a wide variety of differing animation studios producing the level of quality, the length of animation and producing such profits as Blue Sky Studios.

The two animated films released back in 2006 by Blue Sky Studios and Pixar were: Ice Age: Meltdown and Cars. Ice Ages' full budget was $80 million and the Box Office for the film was $660.9 million compared to the budget of Cars which was $120 million with a  Box Office of $462 million. This shows that both companies are big names that they can spend such vast amounts of money on film production and still make a vast sum of profit back.

The two products are very similar because each are completely 3D animated which means that the entire film is made from Computer Generated Imagery. The films have a very different art style, but they have friendly bright colours with a fictional take on life with characters being all types of colours like the Cars actually being alive and having paintwork like a real car, this is achieved because both films targets is children. If you look at the two pictures to the right the eyes are very wide and the facial expressions are very aparent because of their over exuberance to make each film more easily viewable for Children and to entertain other target audience for instance Teenagers and adults. Ice Age however has more realistic backgrounds compared to Cars which means that the atmosphere is very different. Cars' art style is more homely compared to Ice Age which is very different in each scene.

The Market position of Pixar who is owned by Disney is currently at 105.50 points in their market position comparedto Blue Sky Studios at 28.88 points as of 20:07, 9th October 2015. This shows that the market position of Disney and Pixar is leaps ahead of Blue Sky Studios showing how much value Pixar has against Blue Sky Studios.
